Killer Snails creates learning games and immersive experiences that explore extreme creatures of nature. These educational learning games provide formative assessment that measures student growth and provides feedback to teachers to improve how kids learn. Killer Snails is leading the path to a new way of teaching children across the world.

With the goal of finding a way to make learning about biodiversity fun, Jessica Ochoa Hendrix and her team began their journey. After attending the acclaimed National Science Foundation’s I-Corps program in the Summer of 2014 provided by the New York City Regional Innovation Node (NYCRIN), the team was able to gather valuable insights from the customer discovery process.

Fast forward to today, Killer Snails has grown tremendously. Despite having only 6 employees in Brooklyn, NY, Killer Snail slugged its way to the top by presenting at multiple conferences, such as City University of New York’s Games Festival, Origins Games Fair, GenCon, and many more. The company has a new game, Biome Builder, currently on Kickstarter, an award winning game Assassins of the Sea on Amazon,  a digital game launching on iTunes next month and a VR experience being piloted in three middle schools and a high school.

Additionally, Killer Snails first game, Assassins of the Sea, developed with the American Museum of Natural History, was selected and featured as an Amazing Kickstarter Campaign by Kickstarter, launched on Amazon as the 23rd best selling toy/game on Amazon’s LaunchPad and the 94th best-selling card game on Amazon as a whole, selling more than $40,000 in the first 6 months of launching the product.

Furthermore, Killer Snails received both the Small Business Innovation Research Phase I and Phase II awards, totaling a sum of $900,000 to further develop their formative assessment dashboard for digital games and virtual reality experiences.

Additional accolades include being the winner of the 16Bit award for the Best 2016 TableTop game from Playcrafting and among the finalists for the 2017 MENSA Mind Games Select Seal Award. Their newest game, Biome Builder, is currently a finalist for the 2017 Boston Festival of Indie Games.
